3rd Lt. JESSE C. COLLINS - WIA - POW

 

Age at enlistment: 19

Born:  12/31/1842 in Lowndes Co., GA

Parents:  Enoch E. and Fatima Knight

Died:  unknown

Final Resting Place:  unknown

Married:  unknown

Children: unknown 

 

 He was 6', blue eyes, dark skin, sandy hair.


Enlisted 6/6/1861 at Tampa.  He was not reappointed 6/10/1862 but appears as 3rd Sgt. in late 1862 then was appointed 3rd Lt 11/22/1863.  He was slightly wounded in both arms at Resaca 5/14/1864. He was captured 7/22/1864 near Decatur, GA and released on oath 6/14/65 at Johnson's Island, POW Camp, Chicago, IL.

Six brothers served:  Two (John M. and James Newman) in his unit, Hardy, William and Daniel served in Munnerlyn's Battalion (Florida Cow Cavalry) and Samuel K. in Co. B 10th FL Infantry.

 

There is no record of 3rd Lt. Collins receiving a Florida Confederate Veteran's Pension.  There is no record of him in Florida on the census after the War.
