The following Florida Veteran is being honored in this project:

1st LT. C.C. Burke - WIA - POW

Age at enlistment: 25

Birth: 12 March 1837 Rome, Georgia

Death: 26 December, 1915 Texarkana, Texas

Married: Emire Elizabeth McNealy on 20 February, 1866 in Jackson, Fl

 

Served as First Lieutenant and Adjutant until his resignation on 5 Nov 1863.  He was slightly wounded in the foot at Murfreesboro, Tennessee on 2 January, 1863 and was captured as a Prisoner of War on 4 January 1863 at Murfreesboro.

He was sent to Fort McHenry POW Camp, Maryland and then to Fort Monroe, Virginia for exchange.  At War's end, he attended school and became a Allopath physician.

A 1900 Census from Texarkana, Texas shows his profession to be a physician.

No Florida or Texas Confederate pension records were found.
