PRIVATE JOHN M. HENDRY - POW

Born: 1841

Died: unknown

Married: unknown

Final Resting Place: unknown

Appearance:  6'4", fair complexion, blue eyes, dark hair

A John Hendry, age 19, appears on the 1860 US Census of Hillsborough Co., (Tampa) as a farm laborer in the household of Mathew Auderman.

Enlisted 7/28/1861 at Tampa and was exchanged to Co. B, 7th Florida Infantry for E. Collins 9/161863.  He was wounded in the knee 7/2182/64 and hospitalized in Macon GA, then furloughed 8/4/1864. He was captured 12/7/1864 at Murfreesboro, became a POW at Camp Chase, NY until  released on oath 6/13/1865.  His name appears on the honor roll of Chickamauga.


No record of a Florida Confederate Veteran's Pension.
