The following Florida Veteran is being honored in this project:



PRIVATE THOMAS HOPKINS WILDER

Age at enlistment: 26

Born:  May 10, 1837 in Lowndes Co. GA

Died: December 5, 1916 in Hillsborough Co., Florida

Final Resting Place: Shiloh Cemetery, Plant City, FL

Married: Stella Ann Ward 10 March, 1872 in LaFayette County, Florida

Children:  Columbus

Enlisted 5/5/1862 in Manatee. He was absent on detached service driving beef cattle in Florida since 10/6/63 on the last roll and was attached to Munnerlyn's Battalion (Co. B Cow Cavalry). He served with that unit until the end.

Private Wilder had three brothers who served:  John who served in this unit and died in Camp Chase, OH POW camp, Calffrey who was a POW and served in this company, later in Capt. Lesley's Cow Cavalry unit and survived the war.  The 4th brother,  Andrew J. Wilder (b. 1845), also gave his last full measure, having enlisted in Co. I, 9th Florida Infantry in September 1863.  A year later, he was killed at Petersburg, VA.

Pvt. Wilder received  a Florida Confederate Veteran's pension in Hillsborough County, FL.
