The following Florida Veteran is being honored in this project:



private SAMUEL A. MILEY - WIA

Age at enlistment: 24

Born: 20 April , 1840 in Crawford, Alabama

Died: 16 July, 1920 in Thonotasassa, Florida

Married: Elizabeth Collins Fleming on 15 June , 1865

Eliza Simpson on 7 December ,1882

Sarah Jane Zipperes on 19 July, 1905

Final Resting Place: Simson Family Cemetery in Thonotasassa, Fl

 

Enlisted at Fort Brooke in 1861, served as a Private on detached service driving beef cattle by order of Secretary of War October of 1863. Severely injured at Murfreesboro, Tennessee on 3 January, 1863. Honorably discharged at War's end from Tampa, Florida.

Injuries received at Murfreesboro left him incapable of earning a living as his left arm was rendered useless.

A 1870 Census for Hillsborough County, Florida has him earning a living as a farmer.

He did collect a Confederate pension #A02253
