The following Florida Veteran is being honored in this project:


QUARTERMASTER JAMES B. MCKAY

Age at enlistment: 18

Born: 27 November 1842 in Mobile, Alabama.

Died: 5 September 1925 in Hillsborough County, Florida.

Married: Mary Eliza Crichton on 5 February, 1861 in Florida , Helene Turton, and Lillian Warren.

Lillian Warren on 3 May 1913 in Galveston, Texas.

Promoted to First Lieutenant/Quartermaster on 27 August, 1861. Was sent on detached service to Munnerlyn's Battalion with other soldiers to collect and forward beef cattle to the Armies, this he did until War's end. A 1870 Census for Hillsborough County shows his occupation as steamer captain.

Was also Mayor of Tampa from 1902-1904 and served two terms as a Florida State Senator.

He received a Florida Confederate Veteran's pension #A02618 in Hillsborough County.
