PRIVATE ROBERT F. FLETCHER - POW - DIED

 

Age at enlistment: 28

Born:  abt. 1834 in Florida

Parents:  unknown

Died:  September 25, 1863

Final Resting Place:  unknown

Married: unknown

Children: unknown

 

Appears on US Census of Monroe Co. FL Census in 1860 as a clerk.  Father was a physician.

Enlisted 4/28/62 in Duval Co. for twelve months. He was captured at Murfreesboro 1/5/63.  Yankees first confined him in a military prison at Louisville, Kentucky, before sending him to Camp Butler POW Camp, Illinois on 3/11/1063.  He was exchange in April 1863, but returned and died in service on 9/25/63.
He had served extra duty as a hospital steward.

Pvt. Fletcher did not survive to receive a Florida Confederate Veteran's Pension.
