The following Florida Veteran is being honored in this project:



Sergeant William M. Bowen

Age at enlistment: 27

Born: 25 March, 1837 in Thomas County, Georgia

Died: 23 June, 1918 Polk County, Florida

Married : Mary Singletary 12 January, 1868 in Polk County, Florida

Final Resting Place: Mount Pisgah Cemetery, Fort Meade, Florida

Enlisted 8/4/1861 at Tampa. He was not reappointed and on 6/10/1862.  He was transferred to the Confederate Navy and was one of the parties responsible for the capture of the USS Water Witch.

At War's end, he returned home.  According to 1900 Census for Polk County, Florida his occupation was farmer.

He also served as Sheriff for Polk County, Florida from 1883 to 1884.

He received a Florida Confederate Veteran's pension #A02085 in Polk County, Florida.
